“The Daniel’s Diet later called Daniel Health Challenge,” Dr. Leroy Daley.

In about 2009 a group of health enthusiasts met and prayed that God would give us a simple but effective program that would help our church members to be healthier and share with family, friends, and coworkers. The idea of the Daniel Diet was downloaded in our spirit. We researched the 10-day Daniel Diet in the book of Daniel Chapter 1. It consisted of Pulse and Water.

We discovered that Pulse comes from the Hebrew word Hazeero`iym meaning, seed or grain, such as barley, wheat, rye, and peas, etc. (Adam Clarke’s Commentary.) Barnes says, the word “pulse” means leguminous plants with thin seeds; that is… the “legume” which is called a “pod;” as a “pea-pod,” or “bean-pod,” and the word is commonly applied to peas or beans. In other words, it was a Vegetarian Diet or today a Plant Based Diet, similar to what God gave Adam and Ever in the Garden of Eden

We thought about four food groups that would constitute the Daniel Diet/Health Challenge

  1. The Whole Grain Group: This group includes brown rice, oats, barley, millet, and products made from whole grain. Grains are filling with little fat and no cholesterol.
  2. The Legume, Seed, and Nuts Group: This category includes peas, beans and lentils. Legumes are hearty, high protein foods with a low glycemic index. They are rich in calcium, iron, and cholesterol-lowering soluble fiber. These will drive down your weight, blood sugar and cholesterol.
  3. The Vegetable group: The green vegetables–asparagus, broccoli, spinach, kale, collards, and many others are packed with iron and except for spinach, high in absorbable calcium. Orange -colored vegetables are loaded with beta-carotene, a cancer fighter. For example, carrots and yams. These foods are loaded with vitamins and minerals, and are very low in fats, and like all plant foods, they have no cholesterol and have a low glycemic index, except baking potatoes.
  4. The fruit Group: Fruits are loaded with vitamins, and they have no fats or cholesterol. Nearly all fruits: apples, bananas, blue berries, cherries, oranges, peaches, and most others have a low glycemic index. The exceptions are watermelon and pineapple.

The 10 Day Health Challenge consist of: the Diet with the Four Food Groups, drinking adequate amount of Water, a Prayerful Approach, and a Made-Up Mind. (Daniel 1:8-20) These four components are crucial to your success in doing the   Challenge.

We field tested this with 15 of us who worked on the program. Everyone who was in this trail had their numbers tested before and after the 10 days. We tested for diabetes, High blood pressure, Cholesterol and BMI. To our Joy and delight everyone who did the trial had significant changes in different aspects of their health.  Some lost weight, arthritic pains went away, diabetic number improved, and we felt great. This is the real diet to prevent, manage and even reverse todays’ lifestyle diseases.

So, we later label the program “Daniel Health Challenge 10 Days Look and Feel Great.” We did the trail run in October of 2009.  Because of the success we marketed it to our churches the following year. 50 churches participated and results were similar to the trial group. In this church trial people reported that they were spiritually reconnected with God.

Since then, thousands of people from different states in America and other countries have participated in the Daniel Health Challenge. It was the prayer of creators of this challenge that it would become a lifestyle. Hello, now is your time to pursue this challenge and to share it with others. “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water drink.
